Partners In Print
Partners In Print is a family literacy program that has been offered in Dennis Township School District since 1999. Teachers and parents team up along with early readers to provide instruction and guidance in literacy practices. Teachers model reading strategies and then coach parents as they practice supporting their child's reading efforts. Workshops have been offered for kindergarten and first grade students and their parents.
Topics covered include creating a reading environment, learning the alphabet, letter formation, developing letter sound associations, book selections, introducing stories, making predictions, asking questions, drawing meaning from text, understanding the conventions of print, story sequence, reading strategies and how to praise and ask questions that help children develop these strategies, rhyming and developing phonemic awareness, building sight word recognition for reading and writing, and supporting early writing of sentences and stories.
